Lent Begins Ash Wednesday

This first day of Lent, the 40 days before Easter,
begins this year on February 14.

Ashes are traditionally a sign of repentance – of our desire to turn away from sin and brokenness in all its forms and return to God.

There will be two opportunities to receive ashes.

From 6:30am to 7:30am Pastor Lori will be in the sanctuary and will offer ashes to anyone who desires them.

At 7:30pm there will be a worship service featuring scripture, prayer, choral music, silence for reflection and the imposition of ashes. Before this service, at 6:30pm, there will be a simple supper.  Different types of soup and rolls, plus beverage will be provided. We ask everyone who plans to attend to bring either a salad item or a dessert to share.

Newcomer Session February 25

On Sunday, February 25th immediately following 10am worship, there will be a newcomer session for any person new (or relatively new) to NUMC.

We will have the chance to:

Make introductions to one another.
Hear some of Pastor Lori’s background and perspective.
Learn something about the United Methodist Church and this congregation.
Find out how to get more involved.

A light lunch will be served and child care will be provided.  We will finish by 1pm.

Attendance at this session does not commit you to membership, but information on how to formally join will be provided.

If you have questions or would like to attend, please let Pastor Lori know.

Newly Renovated Kitchen Dedication

We dedicated the newly renovated kitchen at coffee hour
following our 10 AM worship service on January 28th.
Many thanks to all who helped in this great endeavor.

DISCIPLE Bible Study

This Lent, Pastor Lori will offer a more intense small group on Scripture–a DISCIPLE Bible Study short course on the New Testament. Beginning Tuesday evening, Feb 20 and running 8 weeks, this class will give folks an overview of the New Testament– the four Gospels, a number of Epistles and finishing with Revelation. In true DISCIPLE style it will request daily reading and reflection of participants but also promise new insights into the New Testament and foster deeper discipleship. Absolutely no knowledge of scripture is required–that’s what this course is for! If you are interested or need more info please contact Pastor Lori. (There will also be a day group meeting in Lent)

Bible Studies and Small Groups

Sunday morning Adult Bible Study meets every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. (July and August 8:00 a.m.)  This group of about 12 encompasses people from different perspectives who share a passion for learning more about Scripture.  There is a brief reading during the week and then we discuss.
Our current topic is The Gospel of Matthew.  Coffee is always served!
Periodic small groups–will resume in February. Stay tuned for the topic
