Previously the Senior Pastor at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, Rev. Mel Kawakami became the Senior Pastor in Newtown on July 1st, 2008.
Rev. Kawakami has a Masters Degrees in both Theology and Divinity. He has served as Chair of the New York Conference Board of Ordained Ministry as well as Chair of the New York Conference Sexual Ethics Response Team. Mel is also a licensed professional counselor.
Rev. Kawakami brings with him, his wife, Dorothy, and their two canine friends (Mac and Maisie, West Highland White Terriers.)
